Actress Ann Rutherford died Monday at age 94 in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, as a result of heart problems, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter website.
Ann Rutherford, remembered for her role of Scarlett O'Hara's sister, Carreen O'Hara in the 1939 classic "Gone With the Wind", has died at the age of 94.
Rutherford died Monday after her health deteriorated gradually away as the years passed, explained a friend of the artist, Anne Jeffreys, the Los Angeles Times.
lthough the vast majority of moviegoers remember her for having played in the film classic "Gone With the Wind" actress was also popular by the popular comedy series produced by Metro Goldwing Meyer from 1937 to 1958, "Andy Hardy" which she starred alongside American actor Mickey Rooney, a program that made Polly Benedict, the girlfriend of the famous character actor.
In addition to this series, she also participated in other movies including the one made in 1947 called "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" before retiring in 1976.
She married in 1942 with David May II, grandson of the founder of retail chain The May Department Stores, and from the 1950s moved away from Hollywood to devote all his time to his daughter. She divorced in 1953 and that same year, she married with producer William Dozier, who would be his partner until he died in 1991.
In 1989, Ann Rutherford and nine other survivors of the cast of "Gone With the Wind" were reunited in Atlanta to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the film.
In 2010, the actress told the Times that the president of the Metro Goldwing Meyer, Louis B. Mayer, would deny the role of Scarlett O'Hara's sister. But But she determined to want to participate in the film, the actress, big fan of the novel, began to mourn and eventually gave Mayer.
