Ray Manzarek, co-founder of The Doors, dies at 74

Ray Manzarek, The Doors, music, rockRay Manzarek, co-founder and keyboardist of The Doors has died at age 74 in Germany, victim of a cancer that has not been overcome despite their long struggle for trying to end with the disease.

The Facebook account of the group has been responsible for giving the bad news. Ray Manzarek died in Clinic Romed in Rosenheim (Germany).

According to information published in the account, Manzarek, at the time of death, was accompanied by his wife Dorothy and his brothers Rick and James.

The guitarist Roby Krieger, very affected, said: "I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek.I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."

Ray Manzarek's family has asked that instead of sending flowers, the group's fans make a donation in memoriam, on behalf of Ray for Standup2cancer.org., So we can continue to fund research to eradicate this disease. 

Ray Manzarek was born in 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, and was co-founder and keyboardist of The Doors from 1965 to 1973. Until 1971, the band played with their original line also composed of Jim Morrison, Robby Krieger and John Densmore, drummer of the legendary group. When Jim Morrison died in 1971, The Doors continue as a trio editing two more albums: "Other Voices" and "Full Circle", handling voice Manzarek and Krieger header of the choirs.

Messages of condolences by the fans have started to arrive and one of them we read: "say hello! to Jim".
