Jon Lord, keyboard player and founder of Deep Purple, dies at 71

The keyboardist and founder of the rock band Deep Purple has died in a London hospital at age 71 victim of pancreatic cancer.

According to information from the BBC, Jon Lord was suffering from pancreatic cancer who was receiving treatment for about a year. 

The official website keyboardist made ​​a statement announcing the sad news: "We are saddened to announce the death of Jon Lord, who has now suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism at the London Clinic, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was surrounded by his family".

Jon Lord founded the group Deep Purple in Hertford, United Kingdom, in 1968 along with drummer Ian Pace and was continuously in the band until 1976, when the group is separated momentarily. Since 1978, he played in Whitesnake until April 1984 when he returned to Deep Purple. Upon returning from the band, Jon was there until 2003. The night of his last concert with Deep Purple, Jon said: "I will have a long and vibrant solo career".
